[ubuntu] How to play RMVB real media in mplayer

# Download the codecs from the mplayer site.

cd /tmp
wget http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/essential-20071007.tar.bz2
tar xjf essential-20071007.tar.bz2

# Copy the codecs to the system directory.

sudo mkdir /usr/lib/codecs
cd essential-20071007
sudo cp * /usr/lib/codecs

# Launch MPLayer by selecting Applications -> Sound & Video -> MPlayer Movie Player. Right-click in the Mplayer - Video window and select Preferences from the menu.
# Select the Video tab and change the Available drivers: to x11 X11 (XImage/Shm).
# Select the Codecs & demuxer tab and change the Video codec family: to RealVideo decoder and the Audio codec family: to FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders.
